Clear and comfortable to use
Ease of use was central to the design. Traffic flows for staff, car rental, and other users are separated. This ensures smoother flow and added comfort. In the future, a raised pedestrian plaza will be added to the third level, directly connecting the parking garage to the terminal. This creates a clear and pleasant transition between parking and the departure hall.
Distinctive appearance
The building’s facade has a distinct structure. The lower levels are constructed of concrete with perforated facades that let in daylight during the day and light up softly in the evening like a starry sky-like plinth. Above this, the building takes on an expressive character with horizontal aluminium louvers that create a dynamic striped pattern. The pattern is inspired by the contrails left by airplanes in the sky.
The heart of the building is formed by an atrium that extends from level +3 to the roof. This allows ample daylight to enter the parking garage. From this central space, users have an overview of the car rental centre, which improves orientation and enhances user comfort.
Sustainable and future-oriented
The roof of the car park is fully equipped with solar panels. In combination with smart lighting, this helps limit energy consumption and contributes to Brussels Airport’s ambition to be net zero carbon for its own activities as an airport operator by 2030. Robust, low-maintenance materials such as concrete and aluminium define the character of the building.
