Shared platform
The entire complex consists of a Mother and Child Center of 40,000 m², a children’s hospital of 60,000 m², a city hospital of 95,000 m², and an international hospital of 75,000 m², totaling 2,300 beds. These four centers utilize central facilities within a so-called shared platform, a centrally located building of 40,000 m² housing operating rooms, Intensive Care Units, a radiology department, laboratories, staff accommodations, research facilities, and logistical amenities.
One urban block
The hospital campus appears as one urban block where the various centers have been given their own place and identity. The public functions, such as the outpatient clinics, are located in the lower levels of the buildings. On top of these, four towers house the nursing departments of the different hospitals. Between the buildings, there is a park that is accessible to both staff and patients, as well as to the residents of the city of Lanzhou.
The Gansu Woman & Child Medical Center has been designed by Dutch Health Architects (DHA), a joint venture between Gortemaker Algra Feenstra and EGM architects.
