The Havenziekenhuis in Rotterdam is one of the oldest hospitals in the Netherlands. The oldest part dates from 1937 and has doubled in building mass in 1962.
The hospital functions as an ultra-modern model. The treatment building is the small core of the hospital in this model. The wards and outpatient clinics are located around this core.
Early 2015 the elevation of the hospital changed radically. The old entrance has been replaced by a glass, spacious and contemporary senior friendly entrance. The entrance has a connection to the Emergency Department.
The polyclinic is specifically for children from birth to 18 years of age with asthma, allergies and eczema. The design is centred around an engaging seaside theme which allows patients to feel at ease in their surrounding environment creating spaces for recreation and reflection. A defining feature of the interior is the waiting room which is large in scale, and creates room for the younger children to run and play.
